Meet Our Interns
Ana Angeles
Summer 2022 - Present
Ana is a freshman at the University of Richmond (“go spiders”) studying PPEL(politics, philosophy, economics, and law) and biology! She loves to read sci-fi and historical books. Ana loves to spend time with her family and travels between two lands: Oaxaca and Texas to see them. She is also working on fundraising projects to help her community in Texas and other underserved communities in Oaxaca to promote equity and give financial, social, and cultural ease to what could have been her community if her parents did not migrate to the US. She is excited to be part of this community and learn from other first-gens!
Anabel Diaz
Fall 2021 - Present
Anabel is a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago, IL studying Business Administration with Public Policy. As a first-generation college student, Anabel understands about how difficult the college process can be to those who have little to no guidance. She serves as a tutor for Chicago Public Schools and a mentor to high school students back in her hometown. In the future, she hopes to keep advocating for education and volunteering to help students.
Destiny McBurrough
Summer 2021 - Present
Destiny is from North Carolina and currently a junior at Winston Salem State University where she is majoring in music with a minor in journalism. She has always enjoyed using shared experiences to connect with others. One day she hopes to become a music journalist and establish a STEAM afterschool program in her hometown to help students of all ages with their college processes.
Alexandra Deras
Spring 2021 - Present
Alex is a junior at Carnegie Vanguard High School in Houston, Texas. She was born in El Salvador and immigrated to the United States at a young age. She hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. Currently, she hopes to help other first-gen students, while also learning about the college process and trying to keep her coffee addiction at bay.
