Episode 03: Mentors- Because we did not do this alone!
In this episode, Norma discusses the key role mentors have played in the evolution of three first generation college students beginning with how they first obtained mentors all the way to how mentors have shaped their life choices. In addition, our guests provide some tips for how you can best build and establish relationships with mentors.
In this episode you will hear from:
-High School Student Jovanna who expresses how it is more than ok to ask for help because as first gen students we certainly don’t have all of the answers.
-College Student Cesar who reminded us how important it is to build TRUST with our mentors and be open to their experiences and guidance.
-Post College Student Vanessa who became a first generation college graduate nine years ago and attributes much of her success to her life mentor, Mr. Martin who she met when she was a senior in high school.
Remember that you are not alone in this process and that is it completely ok to ask for help from mentors who are happy to support your journey.
