Episode 22: DACA - What it Means for Undocumented First Gens
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is back! In this episode we will discuss what DACA is and hear from two people - one whose life has been transformed through DACA and one who still doesn't qualify reminding us that the fight continues!
In this episode, Norma chats with two first generation college students about the complexity associated with being a first gen undocumented student and what DACA meant for both of them.
In this episode you will hear from:
Arturo came to this country when he was just a little boy from Mexico, but did not meet all of the qualifications to obtain DACA. Despite this, he went on to become the first one in his family to graduate from college and obtain a Masters degree in Mathematics.
Denise came to this country from the Philippines and was able to attend UCLA and then through DACA work with Teach for America as a History Teacher. She shares with us how DACA has changed her life and some tips for undocumented first generation college students on what it means to be a DACA professional.
