In this episode Mijin chats with first generation international college student, Tona and high school student applying as a first gen international student, Mario about the nuances of being a first generation international student especially during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In this episode you will hear from:

  • Mario, a high school student living in Mexico who is applying as a first gen international student. Even though the pandemic has added additional concerns regarding his safety and challenges regarding travel across the border, Mario is committing to his educational journey in the U.S. and search for the American Dream.

  • Tona, a first generation international college student who was born in Ireland and moved from Nigeria to attend Rice University in Houston, Texas. Tona talks about her experience looking for internships and adjusting to new travel regulations as an international student during the pandemic, and also comments on the immigrant identity of international students.
