Episode 101: Should I go back to school to complete my degree?

Our guest, Angie ponders about the tradeoffs of going back to school after 10 years to finish her degree; she has an honest conversation about the “why” and how she defines success and her north star.

Angie Mazariegos - Show Guest

In this episode, Norma chats with Angie about her thought process of potentially going back to school to finish her degree after 10 years. Angie ponders on what implications this decision might have as she is now financially independent, and she has been able to get into her dream career without the college diploma. Unfortunately, she was laid off during covid, which has sparked the thought of going back to college once again.

In this episode you will hear from:

  • Angie who after high school enrolled in college but experienced some challenges in passing some of her classes, which really made her think about why she was paying to fail the same class repeatedly. This failure led her to drop out of school and jump from job to job until she finally was able to obtain the job of her dreams in events and marketing. This reaffirmed her idea that she did not need college to be successful. Unfortunately, during covid she was fired, and this has once again sparked the idea of going back to finish the degree that she started 10 years ago.

In this episode, we discuss and question everything from :

  1. Do you need a degree to have your dream job?

  2. As first gens, do we go to college because that is how “success” has been defined for us?

  3. How do we define success and why is this so tied to our career?
