Episode 95: Anniversary Episode - Bringing Our Parents Along on Our Journeys

Welcome to Episode 95! This is a super special episode because we’re celebrating our 2 year anniversary AND recording our first episode in person with some of the co-hosts of How to College: First Gen!

We centered this discussion on some of the most important people in our journey to and through college: Our PARENTS.

In this episode, Norma, Luz, and Alejandro talk about how they were able to involve their parents in this new journey, the challenges they encountered in getting their parents to understand their new lives, and how they navigated wearing different hats at home.

In this episode you will hear from:

  • Norma who graduated from Rice and Harvard and how she was able to make her mother feel needed during the process.

  • Luz whose parents had a very hands off approach during her educational journey, and

  • Alejandro who has been able to physically bring his parents to the various stages of his life.

All hosts discuss how their parents were critical in their college journey and how they were able to blend home and school life.
